There are few things more disheartening than hearing these three dreaded words: "You look tired"—especially when you're not. To help you look bright-eyed and fresh-faced, we asked beauty experts to share their best wake-up tips.

A sleeping mask with hyaluronic acid, which draws in moisture, helps hydrate your skin while you're in dreamland. "These new overnight masks take advantage of the body's natural skin cell regeneration process that happens while you sleep," says Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist. "Apply the mask 15 minutes before bed and wash your face the next morning." (Don't worry, this product's fast-absorbing formula won’t leave residue on your pillowcase.) Talk about beauty sleep!

The key to starting the day fresh-faced: exfoliation. "Gentle facial scrubs get rid of dead cells that can make skin look dull and uneven, revealing new skin cells underneath that give you a more radiant glow," says Zeichner. "Scrub in soft circular motions without too much pressure." Use SkinCeuticals' mild formula on your face sparingly, so you don't leave skin raw and irritated, and target the delicate eye area with Perricone MD's non-abrasive peel.

You have to multitask, so why shouldn't your beauty products? BB creams (short for beauty or blemish creams) are an all-in-one skincare superpower that acts as a serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock (Elizabeth Arden's new BB cream boasts SPF 30, in addition to vitamin C, an antioxidant). "They come in a variety of different shades to match your skin tone and are packed with brightening and hydrating ingredients to leave you and your skin looking rested and refreshed," says Zeichner.

Your morning cappuccino isn't the only way to get your caffeine fix. Try an eye cream like MAC's stimulating formula—it contains caffeine to soothe unflattering under-eye bags. "Caffeine constricts blood vessels and minimizes the appearance of puffiness and dark circles," explains Zeichner.

"When using concealer, people often forget the inner corners of their eyes, which can get very dark and make you look more tired than you are," says Sarah Graalman, a New York-based makeup artist. Dab an extra drop of MAC's liquid concealer in those corners—just don't go too light. "Lighter colors come out looking gray, especially if you're tired and circles are super-dark, so look for shades with a warmer tint," says Graalman.

Lash Out7 of 11
"Always curl your lashes—they will look twice as long," says Graalman. "Having your lashes pop out makes everyone look bright-eyed." Can't reach all your lashes? Japonesque's heated curler makes it easy to reach even the tiniest ones, and it's small enough to stash in your clutch for on-the-go touch-ups.

A pop of color gives your whole look a lift. "Bright lips illuminate your complexion and distract from sleepy eyes," says Graalman. Bite Beauty's lip cream comes in a variety of vibrant hues and melts easily into your lips, leaving a matte finish.

While well-rested skin has a natural sheen, tired skin can look dull and dehydrated, so avoid powder foundations and matte-finish concealers, which can emphasize dryness. Instead, "use an extra coat of moisturizer, like Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer, which keeps skin nourished without looking greasy," says Graalman.

A rosy complexion makes you look like you've had a full eight hours of sleep. "Dusting blush on the apple of your cheeks in a shade that matches your natural lip color gives your skin a natural glow," says Melissa Paldino, hair and makeup artist with Ennis Inc. "For dry to normal skin, use an oil-based blush like Make Up For Ever's HD Microfinish Cream Blush, and for problem or oily skin, a powder blush like Laura Mercier's Second Skin Cheek Colour."
Go Nude11 of 11
For truly eye-opening results, skip dark eyeliner and opt for Make Up For Ever's creamy champagne hue, which blends easily into most skin tones. "Using nude liner on the water line of the lower lashes opens the eyes," says Paldino. The reason? "It adds to the whiteness of the eyes, making them appear bigger."
