How To Get A Brighter SmileBy Abby Gardner
Who doesn't want their teeth to be whiter? We don't know many people. Maybe you drink coffee or red wine, used to smoke or just have normal wear and tear on your smile, but luckily you have a lot of options available to lessen the problem. And they don't all cost a ton of money. Take your pick!
In-Office Treatment Talk to your dentist about what type of whitening treatment is the best suited for you — the type of discoloration may inform which method you should use. If your doctor suggests chairside bleaching, as the American Dental Association (ADA) calls it, he/she will put a bleaching gel onto your teeth (while protecting the rest of the soft tissue in your mouth) and then activate it with a special light or laser.
At-Home Bleaching Your dentist might also give you trays in which you can do a variation of the in-office procedure at home. You place the gel (which contains peroxide) into a tray that looks like a mouth guard and let the bleach do its thing. The same process is what makes the very popular Crest Whitestrips work as well. Bleaching can cause some sensitivity in your teeth, so if that becomes a problem you should speak to your dentist.
Whitening Toothpastes There seems to be a toothpaste for every mouth issue under the sun. If you're in the market for a daily whitener, be sure to look for the ADA seal of approval. Right now I'm loving Colgate Pro Clinical which contains crystals that polish the teeth.
Veneers If none of the above are working to get your teeth whiter, you may want to consider bonding or veneers. Veneers are incredibly thin layers of material that are placed on top of your teeth. Think of it like laminating each tooth with custom-color. They are usually made from porcelain or resin and are permanently bonded to your teeth.
