Hump Day Happy Hour

Enjoy The ESPYs With This MVP-Worthy Punch

Even if you associate Kobe with beef and think Phil Jackson is Michael's brother, you should tune in to ESPN's ESPY Awards tonight at 9 PM/ET — because you don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate Derek Jeter's dimples or Drew Brees's derriere. During the show, you can even enjoy some mouth candy alongside your eye candy with “Pineapple Punch Out,” a drink designed exclusively for Glo by L.A. bartender Steve Lieberman.

Perfect for a big group — and super easy to make — this sipper can be enjoyed in uber-sports-fan-fashion: To really get into the night's spirit, brew this concoction in a festive Gatorade jug and break out some sports bottles so you (and your guests) can re-hydrate in between awards.

However you enjoy the drink, and whether you're rooting for Serena or against Tiger, you'll come out on top with this fan-friendly recipe that's sure to pack a punch.

"The Pineapple Punch Out"

4 750 ml Bottles of Soju (a Korean spirit available at most major supermarkets)

1 Large Pineapple, cubed

10 Basil Leaves

In a large container or jug, combine pineapple chunks, basil leaves and Soju. Refrigerate over night and serve on the rocks. Adjust ingredients according to the ratios above for more or less punch.

Steve Lieberman is the owner and manager of West 4th/Jane, located in Santa Monica, CA.

  • Tropical pineapple gives this punch some major sweet-and-tart impact.
