Hump Day Happy Hour
Sip Some Gin and Juice for Snoop Dogg's BirthdayBy Julie Fishman
The number of nights we've spent screaming "Nothin' but a G Thang" while attempting to drop it like we were hot certainly warrants a 39th birthday tribute to our favorite gangsta MC, Calvin Broadus, aka Snoop Dogg.
You might be inspired to pour some of this week's cocktail out for your homies, but even Snoop himself wouldn't approve of wasting any of Tony Gemignani's and Stephanie Danese's just-for-Glo drink, a very new take on the classic hip-hop hooch, gin and juice.
The “Wilson T. Dog” features ginger and cucumber, a refreshing combo that'll make you feel like an instant baller. If the economy has got you stressed, take your mind off your money and your money off your mind by sippin' on this gin and juice cocktail.
“Wilson T. Dog”
2 oz. Hendrick's gin
1 oz. Ginger Syrup (see below to make yourself)
Juice of 1/2 an Orange
Juice of 1/2 a Grapefruit
1 slice of Cucumber
1 oz. Ginger Beer
Ingredients for house-made ginger syrup (optional):
2 cups Water
1 cup White Sugar
2 bunches Fresh Ginger
2 tablespoons Black Peppercorns
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in gin, ginger syrup, fresh juices and cucumber slice. Shake for 10 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice ¾ to the top. Top off the cocktail with ginger beer.
Chop up ginger into pieces. Combine water, sugar, chopped ginger and black peppercorns in a medium-size pot. Bring to a rapid boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Strain into container and cool.
Tony Gemignani is the head chef and owner of Tony's Pizza Napoletana, located in San Francisco, where Stephanie Danese is a bartender.
Candied ginger gives this cocktail quite a kick.Thinkstock
