While the first Plymouth Plantation Thanksgiving probably didn't feature cocktails (the Pilgrims were Puritans, after all), we at Glo give thanks that alcohol worked its way into the harvest holiday. And the cocktail below will surely have you thinking the same.
When any big group of related people gets together, there's bound to be bedlam. And if you're cooking for the clan, it'll only triple the turkey tumult. Allay your relatives and yourself with a glass of “Uncle Jerry's Log Cabin,” brought to Glo by beverage director Peter Birmingham.
Infused with maple syrup, this week's drink offers a cornucopia of tastes that combine to form a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for your palate. With a cocktail like this, your fam won't just be giving you thanks, they'll be singing your praises.
“Uncle Jerry's Log Cabin”
½ oz Maple syrup
½ oz Carpano Antica Vermouth
¾ oz Lemon juice
2 oz Earl Grey-infused rye*
*To make tea-infused rye, combine Pikesville Rye Whiskey and Earl Grey tea at a ratio of 750 mL to ½ oz (by weight of tea). Steep for up to one hour or until fragrant.
Combine first four ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake for 20 seconds. Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with a splash of soda water. Garnish with a fruit flag (a slice of orange and two griotte cherries on a toothpick).
