Hump Day Happy Hour

Cheers to Mother Earth with this Fruit-Filled Cocktail

Long before Captain Planet began busting up eco villains, Americans decided to set aside a day to pay some respect to Mother Earth. Having supported life for over 2 billion years, one day is the least we can give for her. Glo's going green this Friday in celebration of the 41st Earth Day, and we'd love our readers to jump on the environmental bandwagon with us.

With cleanups, seminars and tree plantings across the country, it's easy to make an Earth Day impact. Even if you can't attend a community event, do your part by biking to work, buying local or simply shutting off the lights. As a reward for your energy efficiency, have a glass of this week's “Fresa Genjibre,” a garden-fresh cocktail made from organic ingredients.

Created just-for-Glo by mixologist Demetra Stevens, this drink combines seriously smooth Avión tequila and synthetic-free fruits, making this Earth Day drink delicious and environmentally conscious. Reduce, reuse, recycle ... then refresh with “Fresa Genjibre.”

“Fresa Genjibre”

Ingredients:

1.5 oz Avión Reposado

4 large organic strawberries (sliced)

1 large organic strawberry (whole)

1 tsp organic Agave Nectar

Juice from half of an organic lime

1 tsp freshly grated organic ginger

1 tsp finely chopped candied ginger

Directions: Combine all the ingredients except the whole strawberry and candied ginger in a Boston Shaker. Shake vigorously until strawberries are thinned. Loosely strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with whole strawberry on the side and sprinkle candied ginger on top. Serve immediately.

Demetra Stevens is a mixologist at Ortega 120 in Redondo Beach, CA.
