One to three times a year, a day of the week long associated with misfortune and a number most cultures call unlucky combine and foretell disaster in the minds of many. Reactions to Friday the 13th range from refusal to travel to refusal to even get out of bed.

Even if you're in the latter group, make it to the kitchen at some point to stir up this week's calamity-free concoction.

Created by wine cocktail connoisseur Stacy De Fino, “Sparkling Prosycho” is guaranteed to alleviate any Friday the 13th fears. With a little bit sweet and just the right amount bite, you'll gain some false bravado (aka “beer muscles”) in no time.

If a hockey-masked Jason busts through the door, then your “Sparkling Prosycho” doubles as a weapon: smash your flute against his fruit (if you get our drift), and then cheers to an otherwise fright-free Friday the 13th.

“Sparkling Prosycho”


5 fresh blackberries

3 large leaves, basil (fresh)

1.5 oz. Cointreau

1 oz. whiskey

2-3 oz. Prosecco


Muddle blackberries in a small bowl. Shred basil into short strips. Place both items at the bottom of a champagne flute or other festive stemware. Add Cointreau and whiskey. Top off with Prosecco or other sparkling white wine. Note that the more condensed the glass, the darker the appearance of the beverage.
