Here's To 30 Years of MTVBy Julie Fishman
"Video Killed the Radio Star," the first song ever played on MTV, turned out to be prophetic. Although radio isn't exactly dead, the network will be 30 years old on Aug. 1, and the kids are still chanting, "I want my MTV."
Between Madonna's writhing onstage in a wedding dress, the catchphrase "seven strangers picked to live in a house," and the fist-pumping cast of Jersey Shore, MTV has made an indelible mark on pop culture.
Inspired by the lyrics to The Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime"—featured on MTV's first countdown—this week's custom cocktail, "Same As It Never Was," revolutionizes the gin and tonic, just like MTV revolutionized the world of music.
"Same As It Never Was"
2 oz. gin
4 tonic ice cubes infused with Angostura Bitters
1 oz. lime juice
1 lime wheel for garnish
Fill ice cube tray with tonic water. Add two drops of Angostura Bitters to each individual ice cube and freeze. In a rocks glass, add gin and lime juice, then fill with tonic ice cubes. Give a quick stir and garnish with lime wedge.

Reminisce about watching Fresh Prince's "Parents Just Don't Understand" and Madonna's "Like A Virgin" while you sip this not-so-virgin cocktail.MTV/Photofest
