Celeb-Approved Cocktails To Get You Through The WeekBy Julie Fishman
If you watched Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous growing up or are a fan of MTV Cribs, then you'll love this week's inside look at the cocktails that celebrities create when they're hanging at home or hosting some guests.
Sheryl Crow, Gwyneth Paltrow and P. Diddy provided personal recipes for their go-to drinks. While Crow's cocktail is a party-starter and Paltrow's potion is refreshing at brunch, P. Diddy's drink is for the long night in between: "I like a perfectly smooth drink, and this one hits the spot," he says about his "Diddy Up."
Sheryl Crow's "Watermelon Margarita"
2 1/4 cups peeled seedless watermelon, diced
1/2 cup high-quality tequila
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tbsp. triple sec
2 cups ice
In a blender, process the watermelon, tequila, sugar, lime juice, triple sec and 2 cups of ice until smooth. Transfer to a pitcher and refrigerate until ready to serve. Serves two.
P Diddy's "Diddy Up"
1 1/4 oz. Ciroc?
1/2 oz. grapefruit syrup ?
Red Bull ?
Fill a glass with ice and add Ciroc and grapefruit syrup. Fill with Red Bull, and garnish with a lime wedge.
Gwyneth Paltrow's "Peach Cooler"
This is Paltrow's American spin on a Pimm's Cup, a cocktail from her adopted hometown of London. The key to success? Use ripe, fragrant peaches.
2 very ripe peaches, peeled, cut into half-inch wedges
6 tbsp. peach liqueur
2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup vodka
1 English hothouse cucumber
2 cups chilled Prosecco
1 1/2 cups chilled soda water
12 fresh mint leaves
Using a muddler or wooden spoon, mash peaches with liqueur and lemon juice in a large pitcher. Stir in vodka. Can be made four hours ahead. Cover and chill.
Cut 1/3 of cucumber lengthwise into four spears for garnish. Thinly slice remaining cucumber. Stir Prosecco, soda water, mint and sliced cucumber into pitcher. Fill glasses with ice. Pour cooler into glasses; garnish with cucumber spear. Makes four.
