  • So what about predicting what's going to happen? Catherine says that she sees past, present and future all at one time. (I resist the urge to blurt out, "Tell me everything.") Ultimately, Catherine's method is more about reassuring you that the future is already there. She says that knowledge allows you to focus on "the now." As Susan says, "You get this sense that you're exactly where you need to be."

The notion that the future is already there (and that someone can possibly see it) is hard to fully embrace, but I'm not opposed to it; the same way that I'm not opposed to the idea of past lives. For me, part of the appeal is the mystery of the metaphysical world, the things we can't see or know, of which I'm convinced there are many.

I'm also convinced that my thinking isn't everyone's thinking, that there are people who don't "get" psychic readings the way that I've had a hard time "getting" therapy. But that doesn't mean I don't see a real value in therapy. If you're battling depression, then talking to a psychic for an hour isn't going to cure you.

And for me, someone who was sad—but not depressed—after a breakup, three months of therapy probably wouldn't have given me what I was able to get in one hour on the phone with the psychic medium in Southampton. I didn't find out my future, but my perspective on what I was going through shifted, if only slightly, but enough to make me feel like everything was going to be all right.
