Write On1 of 17
By Natasha Burton
Looking to do a little self-discovery? Check out your writing. Graphology, the study and analysis of handwriting, might provide some insights into your own personality. Just in time for Left-Handers Day, we asked graphologist Kathi McKnight to analyze samples from eight women and share her tips for interpreting your own script.
The Writing2 of 17
McKnight says that the slant of this woman's writing shows a person who is emotional and heart-centered—someone who usually cries during sad movies. Yet, her angular m's and n's also indicate a very analytical, curious and sharp mind.
The Reveal3 of 17
Megan, 35: "I definitely have waterworks when it comes to sad films or stories. I've always been emotional and curious—so that's spot on—and I strive to be heart-centered, so I'm flattered by that note! I'd always attributed my handwriting to 12 years of Catholic school—I'm loving this new perspective."
The Writing4 of 17
The even spacing between her words suggest that this women is easygoing, while the far right slant indicates that she's sentimental. "She'll borrow the tissues from Megan at the movies," says McKnight.
The Reveal5 of 17
Carly, 31: "I would say that this is mostly accurate—I am definitely sentimental and cry at movies. However, while I think I am easygoing I'm sure there are others who would beg to differ!"
The Writing6 of 17
Someone who is very cerebral and head-oriented will have a vertical slant, as seen in this writing sample, McKnight says. Having no loops or hooks in her oval letters (such as a's and o's) indicates a penchant for honesty as well.
The Reveal7 of 17
Paula, 27: "I am definitely known for being honest. In terms of 'head-oriented,' I'd say I'm a mix of very head-oriented and very heart-oriented. I kind of act from my heart and then think about it from my head, if that makes sense."
The Writing8 of 17
This sample wowed McKnight, who says that such teeny tiny writing shows that this woman has "fabulous powers of concentration and focus." She also has "high emotional intelligence," and feels things intensely.
The Reveal9 of 17
Brithny, 23: "I'd like to appropriate 'high emotional intelligence ' for my About Me's from now on. As for 'fabulous powers of concentration and focus,' I can neither confirm nor deny but I will say I'm flattered and will be showing my boss this description of me ASAP."
The Writing10 of 17
This is a woman who combines both head and heart when making decisions, McKnight says. "She's intuitive, loyal to what she believes in and approachable."
The Reveal11 of 17
Andie, 36: "Those are all adjectives that seem to describe me, so it's nice to see that someone was able to pick up those traits. It's a nice reminder that I do make decisions with my heart a lot."
The Writing12 of 17
Judging by the space she puts between her words, this is someone who needs a little elbow room, says McKnight. She also has an impulsive, extroverted streak, as indicated by the right slant of her writing.
The Reveal13 of 17
Marina, 28: "I am definitely an extrovert and like to socialize with an eclectic mix of people and at the same time, I enjoy independence and solitude."
The Writing14 of 17
The light pressure to this woman's handwriting shows someone who is easygoing and doesn't hold a grudge, McKnight says.
The Reveal15 of 17
Laura, 37: "I would say I'm definitely easygoing—that is, until I'm balancing the family schedule, when I become super Type-A. And, yes, I'm pretty forgiving, too. I don't have time to hold a grudge."
The Writing16 of 17
This woman likely has a photographic memory, McKnight says, given her precise i's, and is very poised. The way the words slant also shows that she's extremely logical as well.
The Reveal17 of 17
Maece, 29: "I can see where one can get logical, precise and poise from my handwriting. I love typography, calligraphy and lettering. I have designed fonts before, and I draw a lot so I do know I have a steady hand. Beauty and geometry are a high regard in my design practice."
